The Benzie Area Historical Society has various levels of donor societies:
Contributors Society (up to $100)
Archivists Society (up to $250)
Curators Society (up to $500)
Historian Society (up to $1000)
Patron (up to $2500)

Become a Volunteer

Our volunteers time and talent are critical to the success of the Benzie Area Historical Museum! As a volunteer you can:

  • Catalog museum objects, photos, and postcards into our computer-based catalog

  • Design and create exhibits

  • Perform small repairs to artifacts i.e., sewing repairs to fabrics, cleaning small motors/guns/leather items

  • Greet museum visitors during the summer

  • Research and write about local history/events/places/place names

  • Help with school groups visiting the museum

  • Host/docent at Drake School during the summer months

  • Set up and work at programs and exhibits

  • Design and update our website

Join a Committee

Active committees are the lifeblood of the museum and new participants are warmly welcomed!

Current Committees: 
Volunteers: Chiefly responsible for  helping recruit, train and scheduling of museum docents and event hosts.
Programs and Exhibits: Plan and recruit speakers for the yearly schedule of the Benzonia Academy Lectures Series; plan, organize and help set up programs and exhibits.
Collections: Provides oversight of Museum artifacts--help preserve and store artifacts, determine what we accept and keep for our collections.
Fundraising: Plan, organize and direct fundraising events.
Building and Grounds: Prioritize, oversee and help with repairs and physical improvements to both the museum and Drake School.

Short-Term Task Groups:
Education Task group: To determine how the Museum and its resources can best meet the needs of teachers and local schools.
Feedback Task group: To determine how best to gather feedback from events, programs,  exhibits and lectures.
Strategic Plan: Begin the strategic planning process for the Museum and Historical Society.
Publications: Set up guidelines for local authors who wish to write historical books/pamphlets for the museum.
